Safety Management System (SMS) Engineer – Civil Aftermarket, Parts

Business unit Civil Aftermarket was established in spring 2022 and cover repair of aircraft engine components and complete engine repair and overhaul for Industrial Gas Turbines.
The SMS Engineer will play a vital role in ensuring the effectiveness and compliance of our safety practices and processes. Working closely with our safety and quality teams, the SMS Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the Safety Management System to meet EASA Part 145 requirements.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain the Safety Management System of the organization in compliance with the regulatory requirements and industry best practices
- Coordinate and support the organization with identification of hazards, safety risk assessments and development of appropriate mitigation strategies
- Monitor and evaluate safety performance indicators and propose improvements to enhance safety standards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish and monitor safety objectives and targets
- Provide guidance and support to managers and employees in implementing safety policies and procedures
- Participate in accident and incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Monitor yearly plan for Safety Risk Management pro-active activities (MRA, RADAR etc.) including coaching leaders in executing planned activities
- Ensure that safety data is collected, analyzed and reported on a regular basis to identify trends and patterns in safety hazards and incidents
- Engage and communicate across the employee spectrum from Executive/Senior leadership to working level teams to promote and operationalize the SMS
- Support Safety Assurance implementation and continuous improvement as the business unit advances its use of monitoring and analysis of metrics/data to assure achievement of the SMS objectives
- Collaborate and engage with external entities regarding SMS which may include Regulators, Partners, Customers, Suppliers and other entities
- Provide safety training to employees and management to promote safety awareness and the importance of safety in the workplace
Required Qualifications/Experience/Skills:
- BSc in Engineering, Aviation Safety, or a related field
- Fluent in English, spoken as well as written
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify potential risks and develop effective mitigation strategies
- Sound understanding of risk assessment methodologies, incident investigation techniques, and safety analysis tools
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications/Experience/Skills:
- Aviation maintenance experience
- Strong knowledge of EASA Part 145 regulations and requirements
- Proven experience in safety management system development, implementation, and maintenance in an aviation or aerospace organization
- Familiarity with industry safety standards such as SMS, AS9100, ISO 9001, or equivalent
- Proficiency in using safety management software and tools
